Ella discovers that someone is embezzling money from WPK and framing her for it. Panicked that she could go to jail, Ella secretly investigates and starts by talking with Jo Reynolds, who realizes Amanda is up to her old tricks again to destroy her career. Meanwhile, Jonah decides to throw a party in the Melrose courtyard to celebrate his newfound success over landing a directing job, as well as to further flaunt his success to Riley. Elsewhere, Jane shows up to confront Amanda for not firing Ella and it’s finally revealed that the vindictive and psychotic Jane is the one who orchestrated Amanda’s return and set up everything behind the scenes all for the sole purpose to destroy Ella’s career, while Jane also has a run-in with her equally psychotic and merciless ex-husband Michael. Elsewhere, Lauren is shocked after Michael threatens to reveal her secret of being a call-girl if she doesn’t have sex with him, which leads to her making a hard decision to do so and be unfaithful to David, since Lauren (like everyone else in the series) feels that her job and career come first. Also, Riley and Drew share a nice and casual first date.

Peter and Eve travel to Peter’s home town in Texas to straighten out items after the sudden death of his father which prompts Peter to think about securing a life different from his lonely father’s by proposing marriage to Eve who immediately accepts. Upon returning, Peter and Eve, with Amanda and Kyle in tow, set out to Eve’s hometown in Oakville to elope. Meanwhile, Amanda arranges a night alone for Jane and Michael to get them back together, by locking them up in the Melrose laundry room. Lexi opens up her feelings to a hostile Megan in order to sooth their strife over Ryan. After hiring a lawyer to sue Michael for divorce and emotional distress, Jane confides in Megan about a problem of hers that makes Michael’s feud with her secondary. Also, Kyle finds a connection between Eve and Amanda when he follows them one night to the nursing home of Eve’s invalid grandmother.

Cooper and Megan agree to begin courting each other, and Michael tries to do the same with Amber the stripper. After figuring out that Lexi was the one that hit him with her car, Bob plays his hand with Peter to be with her. But Peter and Lexi are the ones that get the last laugh after they turn the tables on Bob. Meanwhile, Kyle begins having strange nightmares during his service in the Gulf War involving his Marine buddy Nick, and Christine, a jeep driver that was killed in action. Also, a crippled Amanda alters her rehab plans when she decides to travel to a distant rehab center, while Taylor continues to hound her and Kyle. At the end, Lexi and Peter get a surprise when her father, Thomas Sterling, arrives for a visit.

Michael runs to Kimberly’s side after learning of her health condition, but she runs away. Meanwhile, Amanda plays her hand with Craig and his father and during a hostile confrontation, Field suffers a fatal heart attack. Sydney moves in with Samantha and takes over Jane’s boutique shop after she moves away and learns that it’s in financial straits. Sydney then goes to Kyle for a loan, but help comes from another mysterious source: Carter. Peter takes action after he learns about Dan’s abusive nature which leads to a confrontation with Matt about his problems. Also, Jake is excited with Alison’s news that she’s pregnant, but she’s dubious about the direction of this turn of events.

Jane is paralyzed on her right side after suffering from a stroke caused by drinking too much drugged champagne at the Christmas party, while Kimberly helps a guilt-ridden Sydney cover her tracks in the incident. Brooke tells Billy that she had a miscarriage, but when he learns the truth that Brooke was never pregnant, he threatens her with divorce. Meanwhile, Peter gets cranky when he is faced with a malpractice suit, so Bobby invites him, Amanda and Alison over as his house in Palm Springs where he professes his love to Amanda. Also, Matt asks Alan to spend New Year’s Day with him, but Alan wants to go to New York for an acting job.

Jo goes to her 10-year high school reunion in San Francisco and meets Reed Carter, a former boyfriend, who tells her that he was imprisoned for drug trafficking. He tells her that he was only taking the fall for someone else, and she believes him. Meanwhile, while waiting tables at Shooter’s, a man offers Sydney a large amount of money to sleep with him. Even though she had vowed to quit prostitution, Sydney accepts. The man turns out to be an undercover police officer and Sydney is arrested. Michael bails her out of jail and demands her help in breaking up Jane and Robert or he will tell everyone how she’s really making her money. An angry and jealous Amanda finally evicts Jake and starts making Alison’s life miserable at work, until she meets with her father who confesses to her about his illegal business before he leaves town… as a fugitive.
